American Background

A Young American

Hello! I am a 21 year old girl from Sandy, Utah who has recently become passionate about the issues facing our country. I used to be apathetic towards politics and didn't vote until this year in the mid-term elections. I  have developed so much pride in being an American, and I don't understand how there are Americans who aren't proud of their country. I am not one to say our country is perfect, it is far from perfect, but I am proud to call myself an American. I have the desire to fight for our freedoms, and stand up for what our founding fathers created.

I started to become interested in politics when Sarah Palin came on the scene. Like many others I connected with her and chose to read her book. In her book, "Going Rogue", she encouraged the reader to register to vote, and so I did. That was my starting point for interest in politics.

As I have read books, watched the news, and researched issues I realized many political figures make remarks referring to the problems they'll leave for "the next generation" and they speak for them. We are the next generation, can we speak for ourselves? Will anyone hear our opinion even though we are young and inexperienced? I do not know the answer to those questions, but I believe anyone can make a difference in the world. I do not know what role I will play in making the world a better place, but as a suggestion from my father, I agreed a blog would be a good place to start.

This blog is meant to facilitate discussion among people of all ages, beliefs, backgrounds, and political alignment. As of now I am registered as unafilliated. Although I lean towards one party's beliefs over the other, I have not been convinced to commit to either party. As creator of this blog I encourage comments and discussion, my only request is that there be no profanity in the comments posted. Thank you!
